My Story
Labeled a “junk food junkie” by my best friend in middle school, I didn’t always have a healthy relationship with food. In college I subsisted on Papa John’s breadsticks, Chik-Fil-A, and beer. I never thought about healthy eating until I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2005 and ended up in the hospital as a result of complications from my treatment medications. I was in my twenties but had crippling arthritis, ran to the bathroom upwards of 20 times daily, was working 13-hour days at a new corporate job, had just gone through a breakup, and was taking 24 pills per day. My pancreas stopped working. Doctors told me that I’d have to be on medication for the rest of my life. Not satisfied with that, I immersed myself in the research of natural medicine and nutrition and partnered with my doctor to try a holistic, natural approach. I’ve been medication- and symptom-free since 2007.
Empowered and enlightened, I decided to pursue nutrition full-time in 2009 to help others prevent disease and improve their health.
My Philosophy
- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
- The Precautionary Principle: better safe than sorry
- A holistic approach: consider all the factors
- One size does not fit all - personalized attention to the individual
